What to wear when you're feeling sick, or "Why is she wearing rhinestones to Target?"
Today, I feel like the devil drop-kicked me in the throat, so I've been taking it easy. I think I've said this on the blog before, but when I'm feeling down or sick, sometimes I like to get dressed up and make myself look nice; it usually cheers me up. So! Here's something I hardly ever do on this blog, an outfit post. And please excuse me if I look sullen/terrible, I'm feeling poorly. I hope you're all having a better day than me!
DeNada review
A few weeks ago, DeNada offered to send me a piece to review. As an admirer of the brand for a few years now, I jumped at the chance.
I got the Slouch Rectangular hat in Lime, which thankfully, is not a neon color.* It's actually the color of a lime, a nice medium green. The hat itself is made of soft, cozy polyamide yarn, and most importantly, it didn't squeeze my head and give me a headache.**
I've always wanted to buy a hat or scarf from DeNada, but never was able to (for one reason or another), so I was quite happy to finally get my hands on a piece. I am pleased with the quality of the fabric, the construction, and the price. I have absolutely no complaints about this hat. Thanks again to DeNada for sending me the hat! I plan on rocking it all winter.
DeNada also makes turbans, gloves, scarves and more for men as well as women. Check them out; DeNada is well worth it.
* Not that there's anything wrong with that. I just wanted something darker.
** I bought a hat from H&M this weekend, and I legit have to prop the darn thing on my head because otherwise it squeezes the crap out of my head. Did I accidentally grab it from the kids section?? I don't even have a big head!
Lydell review
Last month, jewelry company Lydell NYC sent me some pieces to review. I mentioned that on Instagram a little while ago, but I'm finally getting to it now -- sorry for the delay!
I had asked for some different pieces, but the ones I wanted weren't in stock at the warehouse. The representative I spoke to sent me some other pieces instead: the Pave Link necklace and bracelet.
My first impression of the necklace was that it was really heavy. I wore the necklace to a friend's house, but I had a few issues with it at first.
The links seemed to twist around a lot, and I don't know if it's my Virgo perfectionism showing through, but I found myself fussing with it quite a bit to make sure it lay properly. Once on, some links flipped around during the night, so I felt like I kept having to fix it. If that sort of thing won't bother you, then I'd definitely recommend it.
As for the bracelet, I have no complaints! I have always had pretty big wrists and fingers (makes it a b-word to find nice rings to wear), so the bracelet fit snugly -- not too tight -- on me.
I really liked that just a few links had rhinestones on them, and I got quite a few compliments on the piece. I would certainly recommend this bracelet, and I plan on wearing it on New Year's Eve!
So far, I believe that both the necklace and bracelet are good quality and appropriately priced ($50 and $46, respectively). Check out Lydell NYC, and let me know what you think!

Neiman Marcus Fall/Winter Trends!
A few weeks ago, CAPFABB hosted an evening with Neiman Marcus that included high-end fashion, awesome bloggers, yummy food and a styling challenge (more on that later)! This was my third CAPFABB event, but I always go to these events alone, so I always have a few awkward minutes before I start introducing myself to people. Everybody is really friendly, so as I said before, if you're in the area and you blog about fashion and/or beauty, join the group and come to an event!
Back to the focus of the evening: fashion. Neiman Marcus signed about 10 bloggers up for two separate teams. Each team had to style a model, using as many of the fashion trends on "The List" as possible. We were given the run of the store, which was awesome... but also a little nerve-wracking, because I was absolutely convinced that I'd be tackled by a Neiman Marcus employee if I touched a Ferragamo bag. Luckily, my partner and I picked up a Rebecca Minkoff Mac bag for styling without a hitch!
Drum roll for our model, please...
Here she is, encompassing every trend on The List -- without looking like a fashion victim. There's mixed greens in the shoe, a fur jacket (not pictured), a smoking slipper for daytime wear, navy leather in the top, a statement handbag (the one we didn't get tackled over), a shirt and silhouette borrowed from the boys, two digital prints, a brooch, and the fall face (a red lip).
I have to say, working on this styling challenge with everyone was really fun, and it really got me thinking about pursuing styling as a side career. Oh, by the way: we won!
As usual, I met some really nice people, including the bloggers from The Coattail Effect.
All in all, I had a great time at this event. My one gripe is that the prize we won for the challenge was kinda...mediocre, especially considering (apparently) the outfit we styled was bought immediately by another shopper. Oh, well! It was still a fun evening, the company was great and the food was a smash-bang fusion.

My new shoes!
They're Violet Beauregard blue. (Heh.) I wear skateboarding sneakers a lot because they're the most comfortable shape for my feet... and they often look pretty cool. These are actually from the boys' section in Target. I never thought about shopping there before, but I'll definitely take a look next time I'm looking for sneakers.
My favorite boots
I love these! They're from the Dolce Vita x Target collaboration. They definitely were a great buy, though it seems like they weren't in stores for very long. Anyway, I feel like such a badass when I wear these. Seriously... I feel like an extra from this video:
A little bit of cuteness to get you through the week
You can't really see what I was wearing, but it was just one of those military/utility jackets and my Chloe-looking boots (that are really uncomfortable). Casual Fridays are the business.
Neon *may* make you feel better
I had a pretty shite day last Tuesday, and wearing these was pretty much the only good part of it. I was already in a bad mood when I left for school, then I had an exam that was completely different from what the professor said it'd be... not good. But life goes on, and I'm feeling better now.
Office wear for Fall (or, "OMG, an Actual Outfit Post!")
Necklace - Goodwill | Striped shirt - Rodarte for Target | Corset belt - Forever 21 | Skirt - stole it from Mom | Dotted tights - H&M | Studded oxfords - Dolce Vita for Target
Claw hand!! LOL, this was an accidental picture, but it shows the pleats nicely so I kept it.
I am obsessed with these shoes!
This is the belt I wore. I really like it, but man is it tight! At first, I had it buckled on the hole where I would normally wear a belt, but I felt like I was going to pass out! Fainting in the office is so not fetch.
In other news, I'm going to a haunted house today! That's really exciting... I hope it's scary. Actually, I'm sure it will be, since I'll be hopped up on pain meds (if you follow me on Twitter, you know I had minor surgery recently. But don't worry, I'm fine!) Happy Halloween, everyone! And if you don't celebrate it, have a great weekend.
Quickie
Just doing a quick post. As promised, the rest of my fashion week posts will come this weekend. This week's been so crazy...
My Yearly Dilemma, In Pictures
Jeans - Kohl's | Plaid shirt - Kohl's | Feather earrings - Forever 21 | Ivory bracelets - Gift from mommy | Boy scout belt - "Gift" from a friend
This is how I usually like to dress. I'm not a big fan of shorts or skirts, especially not in the summer time, because my thighs get all sweaty, etc. If I do wear shorts or skirts, I usually have tights, stockings or leggings underneath.
But when it's 102 degrees F out, as it is today, you can see why wearing a fuzzy dress shirt and jeans might not be a good idea.
And yet, I own very little that can keep me cool. How did this happen? How did I end up with a wardrobe that is pretty much only fall/winter appropriate?
I have a solution -- I'm going to start spending my summers in the southern hemisphere. Perfect, right! Now all I have to do is find a way to get a plane ticket and accommodations for $5.

Another outfit post... aren't you proud?
Well, okay, I kinda lied. It's not really an outfit post, since there's no picture of my actual outfit. I was wearing a gray cotton button-down and white knee-length pants (Are those capris? Or city shorts? Whatever.), but I looked really weird in the pics... so yeah. Anyway, I do have pics of the accessories I had on, yaaay.
Studded faux leather bag - Forever 21
Stud bracelet - Forever 21
Wang-"inspired" (bwahaha.) sunglasses - Forever 21 | Earrings - no idea
Thanks to Liz for taking these pics for me!

Jacket Forever 21 | Loose t-shirt Old Navy | Chain necklace American Eagle | Skinny jeans Simply Vera Wang (Kohls)
Grainiest outfit picture ever... let's just pretend it's supposed to be an effect... Yeah, let's call it the "vintage 70's photos" look, hmm?
Wore this out to meet some friends for drinks. Yay, booze! I mean, uh -- "Teen drinking is very bad." (Kudos to you if you recognize those lyrics.)
It's like wearing pajamas...
I don't know, dude... it's been a very gray week so far. In terms of clothing, I mean. The weather, on the other hand, is picking up quite nicely. By the end of the week, it'll hit 80! (Which is actually WAY too hot for me, but I'm just happy it's not freezing cold or raining.)
Anyway, here's what I wore today:

Today's outfit 3.25 by silentspring featuring Steve Madden dresses
That MAC nail polish is the business. Also, gray eyeliner is my new love.
Unlike yesterday's illustration, none of the clothes here are actually what I wore. I actually wore light flats instead of oxfords (though I really want to get the ones in the Polyvore pic!), my coin necklace doesn't look like that, the shirt I was wearing was similar in color but was actually bigger because it's a men's shirt, and finally, the pants I was wearing are actually dress pants made out of sweatpant material... Is that jersey? Anywho, sweatpant dress pants (as I'll call them for now) are the bomb. For real, I felt like I was wearing pajamas. If I could get away with wearing those same pants every day, I so would. Actually, there's a pair of jersey pants on asos.com that I've been eyeing. I think they're $50, and the waistband is khaki cotton -- hotness!
Edit: On a side note, please excuse the wrong dates on the outfit pics. I am... a doofus, basically.

Walking raincloud!
Today, I wore a mostly monochromatic outfit. I think I was inspired by my nail polish, the India Blue from the Liberty and MAC collabo.
Anyway, this is what I wore (thanks to Polyvore... since we all know I never take pictures of myself):
Funnily enough, the only piece I actually have from this set is the sneakers. But not quite the same ones -- mine are mens' oxford-inspired, which I think makes the outfit a lot better. I had a very mannish vibe going today... so much for not dressing like a boy. *shrug* But I must say, I enjoyed dressing in dark colors more than I thought I would! I've been on a whole "no dark colors" kick lately, but I think I've been forcing it. From now on, I'll just try to let it flow naturally... Ha, what does that even mean?
So, dear readers, what do you do when you're getting dressed? Are you super-organized? For instance, when I find a picture online that I really like, I save the picture, then make a note of what I like in the picture and what I want to try... typical Virgo. Do you just grab whatever is at hand's reach and put it on?

Isabella Oliver
About two weeks ago, I got an email from Holly at Isabella Oliver that let me know about their website. Previously known as a maternity label, they have recently expanded to a regular line called Isabella Oliver 365.

After taking a look at the website (which I suggest!), I saw quite a few interesting things. The site has a video for each piece, so you can see how the clothing falls on a human body... albeit a model's body. Still, it helps. The clothes are a little on the expensive side, but they seem to be of good quality. They also have a little fashion magazine, a la net-a-porter, which is quite helpful in figuring out how to style some of the pieces. After flipping through the most recent one, I definitely want the bustier dress!
I spoke a little more with Holly and she offered to send me a piece of clothing from Isabella Oliver to review here. I chose the striped top and two days later, it was here!

The shirt is quite stretchy, but there isn't a size or garment tag inside of it, so I'm not quite sure what it's made of. I'm guessing cotton with lycra, but like I said, that's a total guess. Also, I think the shirt is one size fits all. I don't see the shirt on their site anymore, I suppose because they just launched their winter collection -- more on that later.
I had my best friend style and take these pictures so you could see how stretchy the shirt is. Here, essentially, I was wearing it as a dress with leggings... something I've never done before! Shocking, I know. :P I meant to take a picture wearing it normally, but we went on a hunt for pho and got sidetracked.
Hat, my friend's; vest, Old Navy; striped top, Isabella Oliver; leggings, hell if I know (gift from a friend); bag, Target; shoes, Rue 21.
The shirt is shirred on the left side, so it bunches up naturally, which makes the shirt not feel so skin-tight, despite the fact that it's very stretchy. Speaking truthfully, I am definitely a fan of Isabella Oliver. The clothes are of great quality, and from the people that I've spoken to at the company, they seem to really take pride in customer service. Like I said before, these might not be the pieces you want to get if you're on a tight budget (the stripe shirt was around $130); that being said, I think they could be great basic "investment" pieces.
Here are a few picks from the winter collection:

The Shirt Coat

The Lace Corset Belt

The Roxy Tote (Sara Berman for Isabella Oliver)

Item pictures from isabellaoliver.com. Others by Liz. (Thanks!!)

Today's Outfit

Untitled by silentspring
Kind of a strange look for me today, but I like it. Nothing special though.
This one's far more interesting:

Whoa there... by silentspring
Feeling Dark?
Lately, I've been making a bigger effort to look nice when I go out. I used to save an "outfit" for when I was going somewhere, but I've realized that I feel a lot better when I put something together a little more carefully. I mean, it's not like I was going out all mismatched, but now I've been injecting a little style into what I wear.
Speaking of what I wear, I'm finding that I'm attracted to a lot of black, blue, gray and white. Very bland for me, and very surprising, considering that I love neons and bright colors (hate pastels, btw), but it's just the way I'm going and I'm not going to fight it.
Here's what I wore today to visit one of my best and oldest friends:

Black and blue by silentspring
I am OBSESSED with my new Vans. They're the most comfortable shoes I own right now and I FINALLY, finally have a pair of shoes that I can wear in the rain... though they definitely have little holes on the sides. The sole is really thick though, so I should be fine as long as I don't go stomping through any huge puddles.

Spaz if you want to...

What I wore Monday night to a N.E.R.D. and Common concert.
...
I'm still freaking out over it. It was AWESOME! If you ever get a chance to see N.E.R.D. in concert, go. Their music is the perfect blend of hip-hop and rock, and I don't mean in that Limp Bizkit/Linkin Park way.
Let me put it this way: when I go to concerts, I usually just sit there and listen and sway to the music. When N.E.R.D. started playing, I lost my mind. I was jumping around, singing along at the top of my lungs, dancing, etc. The poor guy in front of me... I hit him in the head like 3 times. Eventually, I just stopped apologizing.
Probably no more posts this week -- I've got THREE EXAMS in two days next week. :(
Lamesauce.
My mouse BROKE. :( Unfortunately, that means no Fashion Week collages till this weekend, at the earliest. I would do them anyway, but it's damn near impossible to use the lasso tool with a touchpad.
To tide you over, here are three outfits I made on Polyvore.

I actually wore the first and third ones, but I would loooooooooooove to wear the second outfit. I've been looking for some super-bright loafers. Anyone know where to find red ones? I saw blue ones at Old Navy, but there weren't any left in my size.
