<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4DFJoNK5bmY/Uczpzd8iHjI/AAAAAAAADd8/Ifr07lRRSl0/s700/ar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4DFJoNK5bmY/Uczpzd8iHjI/AAAAAAAADd8/Ifr07lRRSl0/s1600/ar.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xpTn8f6lRh8/UczpznXB1NI/AAAAAAAADeA/gxi4gEs-6ss/s960/dg2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xpTn8f6lRh8/UczpznXB1NI/AAAAAAAADeA/gxi4gEs-6ss/s1600/dg2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Despite their current status, Dolce & Gabbana's latest offerings have been some of my favorites. As a history/art history nerd, I really like the use of Byzantine influences here. It's slightly different from the usual religious tropes that designers use. For example, over at Givenchy, the religious icons are usually more Catholic, while these here are kind of Orthodox.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HCVhvvOtk2M/Uczpzqebs1I/AAAAAAAADeI/tIm8dp-rKTk/s960/dg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HCVhvvOtk2M/Uczpzqebs1I/AAAAAAAADeI/tIm8dp-rKTk/s1600/dg.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Long story short, the most easily translatable parts of this are probably <i>not </i>the iconography, but you might still be able to get away with wearing a distilled version of this look in public.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Metallics, especially gold and bronze, religious icons, head to toe lace, jewels and pearls.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AwP6t_aTSPY/Uczp0ctUVDI/AAAAAAAADeY/tHXP7nvK_TY/s960/dgdetail2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AwP6t_aTSPY/Uczp0ctUVDI/AAAAAAAADeY/tHXP7nvK_TY/s1600/dgdetail2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I had to include some detail shots from Dolce & Gabbana, because this was just <i>amazing</i>. The flower cage heels...!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MC9YZVEkzc4/Uczp0LKCN2I/AAAAAAAADeU/DHMPniuq1NI/s960/dgdetail.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MC9YZVEkzc4/Uczp0LKCN2I/AAAAAAAADeU/DHMPniuq1NI/s1600/dgdetail.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I love that the clothes were printed to look like mosaics. It really gives off the feeling of "wearing church", if you know what I mean. And the crowns! They might be my favorite pieces of all from this collection. Who doesn't want to be royalty, even if it's just for a day, or just in your head?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1u6EsODdiAc/Uczp0X7ZnTI/AAAAAAAADeo/dbeMNErGe2k/s960/jc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1u6EsODdiAc/Uczp0X7ZnTI/AAAAAAAADeo/dbeMNErGe2k/s1600/jc.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Moving on to Just Cavalli, which seems to be more street-inspired as time goes by. I always feel like I never know what to expect from this line. This time around, it seems to be luxe puffer jackets over a global mix of fabrics and prints from China, India, and maybe France as well?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8e8f5Nqsb0c/Uczp06NONbI/AAAAAAAADek/2YTtC8tFTog/s597/mcc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8e8f5Nqsb0c/Uczp06NONbI/AAAAAAAADek/2YTtC8tFTog/s1600/mcc.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Moschino Cheap and Chic is also one of my favorites, just because they always seem to be having <i>fun</i> with the designs. This collection seems to be straddling the line between punk and prep, with its tartan overload and tailored shapes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VARwNMwU-IU/Uczp02cBbOI/AAAAAAAADe0/4mnwlO6WAes/s960/vs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VARwNMwU-IU/Uczp02cBbOI/AAAAAAAADe0/4mnwlO6WAes/s1600/vs.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Not too much to say about this collection. I just like latex. *shrug* Time to bust out those liquid leggings again!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-203610477540504208.post-75217936504798442132013-06-30T18:22:00.000-04:002013-06-30T18:22:00.631-04:00London Fashion Week F/W '13: Burberry Prorsum, Clements Ribeiro, Duro Olowu, Holly Fulton, Jean-Pierre Braganza, Joseph, KTZ, Peter Pilotto<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zDLccyU53tw/Ucy1SDissHI/AAAAAAAADc4/uRlniKNVnCE/s960/bp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zDLccyU53tw/Ucy1SDissHI/AAAAAAAADc4/uRlniKNVnCE/s1600/bp.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm hardly ever into Burberry Prorsum, unless they're doing something a little punky/gothic, but I really enjoyed the plastic (vinyl?) pieces, and all the different textures and patterns used this time around. My absolute favorite is the khaki trench with leopard print sleeves. If I had to wear a trench coat, it'd be that one.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Kitten heels, pencil skirts, fabrics with shine, and leopard print, of course.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2MmojZ1z-9w/Ucy1SHuxtMI/AAAAAAAADc8/Gj02Rbx7V8o/s700/cr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2MmojZ1z-9w/Ucy1SHuxtMI/AAAAAAAADc8/Gj02Rbx7V8o/s1600/cr.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
Good ol' Holly Fulton, always bringing the geometric patterned hotness. The cube print shown on the first two skirts is one of my absolute favorite patterns/optical illusions. I guess that's the neuroscientist in me talking, because who has favorite optical illusions? Anyway...<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Cube print illusion (H&M had some pieces this past fall with this print, and you can often find it in other high street stores), all over prints with black to anchor the outfit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MdLFnJbHzaE/Ucy1SrSxFXI/AAAAAAAADdI/epDZ6anAtzg/s960/jps.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MdLFnJbHzaE/Ucy1SrSxFXI/AAAAAAAADdI/epDZ6anAtzg/s1600/jps.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
My fault, I accidentally wrote "Jean-Paul" on the picture, when it should be "Jean-Pierre". My apologies! No apologies needed for the clothes though, with their geometric designs that bring to mind a pagan feel, along with those awesome deer-head necklaces.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FvHCtxFzilw/Ucy1Szc8a-I/AAAAAAAADdU/iC4773Nzrl8/s960/js.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FvHCtxFzilw/Ucy1Szc8a-I/AAAAAAAADdU/iC4773Nzrl8/s1600/js.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I have become a huge fan of KTZ, and also that it is <i>everywhere </i>in the K-pop world. Back to the collection at hand, what really caught my eye was the playing card imagery (best seen in the bottom row, middle two outfits). Playing card imagery is a favorite of mine, since I collect playing cards, so I was really excited to see it in some outlandish, yet relatively wearable clothing. In addition, I feel that it's a continuation of KTZ's previous use of tarot imagery (see the first outfit) in their men's collection.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Bold -- and I mean <i style="font-weight: bold;">bold </i>- playing/tarot card imagery, oily leather, layered bottoms, volume.<br />
<br />

Admittedly, I totally fell off the blogging wagon. I was feeling a little burnt out. But I'm back, and I plan on catching up to all of the runway collections that've happened in the past few months. I do have a question for you though: Is there something new/different you'd like to see on this blog? I'm open to any suggestions. You can drop a comment here, email me, tweet me -- whatever. Thanks!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now on to the clothes that'll be relevant in a mere three or four months (that's a frightening thought, isn't it?)...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1aVmdY7nOlo/UcyvFCuRxmI/AAAAAAAADcE/i-UgoSTksrY/s960/pg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1aVmdY7nOlo/UcyvFCuRxmI/AAAAAAAADcE/i-UgoSTksrY/s1600/pg.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
There's a definite military/bondage theme going on here at Prabal Gurung. I like it, but overall, this outing didn't really capture my heart like PG usually does. Regardless, there's still plenty here to like/covet/buy, like the military parkas and peplum jackets.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Olive drab, buckles galore, appliqued prints.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x6eVOOZ3VkY/UcyvFYRYOSI/AAAAAAAADcI/c1S-Rob2dvU/s960/pl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x6eVOOZ3VkY/UcyvFYRYOSI/AAAAAAAADcI/c1S-Rob2dvU/s1600/pl.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I pretty much posted this just for the leather and shearling jacket at top left... I know people who'd probably give a toe to have that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UnFpmk_D4C8/UcyvHsUc9uI/AAAAAAAADck/-6aPtMYneVs/s960/rr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UnFpmk_D4C8/UcyvHsUc9uI/AAAAAAAADck/-6aPtMYneVs/s1600/rr.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Rachel Roy's clientele are usually working women, or so I've heard. But looking at the above collection, I think her collection might be best suited for art curators or other creative, yet still somewhat formal workplaces. There are certainly a good number of work-appropriate separates, like the long pencil skirts and the short-sleeve t-shirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v_p87-1Mkk0/UcyvGCrJKjI/AAAAAAAADcY/KCxUxRbGsFY/s960/rv.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v_p87-1Mkk0/UcyvGCrJKjI/AAAAAAAADcY/KCxUxRbGsFY/s1600/rv.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This isn't my usual taste (anymore), but it was so cute, I couldn't resist including Red Valentino.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Skincare products, haircare products, and makeupA few months ago, I received/bought some beauty products that I wanted to review. It took me a lot longer than I thought, though, to review everything, so here we are.<br />
<br />
<b>Clarisonic Plus</b><br />
<br />
When I moved back home to go to grad school, my skin started breaking out like crazy, and the pimples never seemed to go away. I finally broke down and bought the Clarisonic because I was so tired of all the blemishes and clogged pores. I bought mine on QVC, and it came with a bunch of other products -- I'd definitely recommend buying it that way.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FHbFaz-6EnY/UaERzLOf93I/AAAAAAAADas/bkuKRLt25dg/s1600/clarisonic+plus.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FHbFaz-6EnY/UaERzLOf93I/AAAAAAAADas/bkuKRLt25dg/s1600/clarisonic+plus.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Source: <a href="http://www.clarisonic.com/">Clarisonic</a>)</div>
<br />
I started using it once a day, and saw awesome results, though I was pretty wary. (A colleague had told me her sister got a staph infection from using a handheld face brush.) Still, I could see all the dirt that regular washing left on my face -- the Clarisonic got mostly everything.<br />
<br />
<b>*gross-out warning*</b><br />
<br />
Then, the honeymoon was over: I started getting these huge individual pimples that were full of pus, like whiteheads. The rest of my skin was clear, but these giant pimples scared me, since I'd never had anything like that. I stopped using the Clarisonic until they all cleared up. Now, I only use the Clarisonic every now and then, and I am extrememly gentle with my face otherwise. My skin is pretty clear, with only the occasional flare-up. Overall, I'd say I am pleased with the Clarisonic. Just make sure that when you use it, you don't overdo it. At the first sign of irritation, I would say either stop use completely, or at the very least, by 50%.<br />
<br />
<b>Bliss products</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

(Source: <a href="http://www.blissworld.com/">Bliss Spa</a>)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Like I said, my Clarisonic came with a bunch of products. I got the Bliss Paraben-free Lemon + Sage Body Butter, the Lemon + Sage Soapy Suds Body Wash, and the Fabulous Foaming Face Wash. I still haven't used the face wash (I'm currently using a glycolic acid wash from my dermatologist, and Murad) or the body wash more than once, but I have used the body butter, and let me tell you...<br />
<br />
It sucks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ebmQQeY8myM/UaEUa-hGrEI/AAAAAAAADa8/E_aiY5YqMcM/s1600/bliss+body+butter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ebmQQeY8myM/UaEUa-hGrEI/AAAAAAAADa8/E_aiY5YqMcM/s1600/bliss+body+butter.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
This has to be one of the <i>least </i>moisturizing lotions/creams I have ever used. From the moment I squeezed it into my hand, I knew it wasn't going to be the one for me. It's a little watery, and I felt like it just evaporated off my skin after I applied it. I had to reapply lotion a few minutes later. If you like the smell of lemon, you might be able to use it just for that... Since I don't like wasting things, I will probably mix it with some other lotions or baby oil gel to get a more moisturizing effect.<br />
<br />
<b>Murad Clarifying Acne Wash</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The tea tree scent definitely makes my eyes water and my face tingle a little bit, but overall, the product isn't irritating and it isn't drying. I will probably continue using this.<br />

Hated it. Ugh, I don't even want to go on. I don't think this product is made for relaxed black hair (and maybe not even naturally textured black hair either). The smell was gross too.<br />

<b><br /></b>
This eyeliner took some getting used to because it's not as liquidy as I expected. However, it gives you a lot of control, and thusly, good results. Unfortunately, my eyeliner pen broke, and I had to throw the whole thing away. :(<br />

<b>Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre</b><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You might think this is just a moisturizing cream, but actually, it's also a primer and make-up remover! That's pretty cool, because it isn't particularly cheap. So yeah, I liked this product, but it seemed like it was making my forehead peel a lot when I used it on a daily basis. I think it's supposed to promote cell turnover, and my forehead peels easily to begin with, so maybe that would explain the results I got. Honestly, I really liked this product, and if it weren't for the peeling, I would say this is a must-have.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Overall, I <i>would </i>recommend the Clarisonic and the Murad face wash. The Embryolisse is okay, so you can try it if you really want to, and finally, I would NOT recommend the Bliss products.</div>

Start freaking out (and saving) now!Just a quick little post to tell y'all that Phillip Lim is going to be collaborating with Target! The collection will be in stores in September (the 15th, I think), and the most expensive clothing item will be $299.99. I can tell you right away that I won't be getting whatever it is that costs <i>that </i>much. What do you think it is? My guess is a coat. Anyway, check out the video of the designer discussing his aesthetic and inspiration.<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PbOSAqbrHDA/UUZD0b-0VAI/AAAAAAAADZA/JyPuAjSysf4/s1600/ks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PbOSAqbrHDA/UUZD0b-0VAI/AAAAAAAADZA/JyPuAjSysf4/s1600/ks.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Neons, whimsical humor (taxi signs, doughnuts), polka dots and other bold prints.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nOIOPkzI_rw/UUZD0wa1y8I/AAAAAAAADZI/m8aMvmM0QZI/s1600/kw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nOIOPkzI_rw/UUZD0wa1y8I/AAAAAAAADZI/m8aMvmM0QZI/s1600/kw.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm not quite sure why I liked this collection. To be honest, it's a little on the frumpy side in my eyes, but somehow... appealingly so? I'm feeling the slightly loose clothing and droopy socks.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: New York <i><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprezzatura">sprezzatura</a></i>, large-scale plaid.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--FzlrbwIbtk/UUZD0832OEI/AAAAAAAADZM/4UlNI84JF1A/s1600/kw2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--FzlrbwIbtk/UUZD0832OEI/AAAAAAAADZM/4UlNI84JF1A/s1600/kw2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
With each passing season, I become more of a fan of Kelly Wearstler. I'm glad that her amazing interior design talent is showing in her clothing as well. On a side note, doesn't this model look like Eva Green?<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Dalmatian print, a splash of neon, shades of gray (the G rated kind).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hrrde8zLbg4/UUZD1A6vHWI/AAAAAAAADZY/0gMtmRXnfgs/s1600/la.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hrrde8zLbg4/UUZD1A6vHWI/AAAAAAAADZY/0gMtmRXnfgs/s1600/la.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Really loving the puffy football-esque shoulders here that are reminiscent of Balenciaga and Alexander Wang. Not sure how these would look on anybody without a model's physique, though...Hmm.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T-IWkQuFSnU/UUZD1lXQC-I/AAAAAAAADZc/8jskENL0c4A/s1600/lamb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T-IWkQuFSnU/UUZD1lXQC-I/AAAAAAAADZc/8jskENL0c4A/s1600/lamb.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Plaid, camouflage and patent leather? I'm <i>sold.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<b>Of note</b>: Camouflage in unexpected colorways, Doc Martens and similar shoes, Teddy Boy influence (plaid, winklepickers)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ijyZN4BdsxE/UUZD2BquCiI/AAAAAAAADZk/GNdIlD6HFQ4/s1600/mh.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ijyZN4BdsxE/UUZD2BquCiI/AAAAAAAADZk/GNdIlD6HFQ4/s1600/mh.jpg" /></a></div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NjNLnCCmTOk/UTvU4knf3BI/AAAAAAAADXo/jLT2xdY6Rxk/s1600/dbg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NjNLnCCmTOk/UTvU4knf3BI/AAAAAAAADXo/jLT2xdY6Rxk/s1600/dbg.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
All black errythang at Diesel Black Gold... well, hey. I'm not the biggest fan of monochrome, but I appreciate that there's quite a bit of visual interest here, with the matte/shiny fabrics and lots and lots of studding.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Studs... lots of them, coated/waxed fabrics, a futuristic feel.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XaspSsoVhDo/UTvU4v57HhI/AAAAAAAADXs/7VcImtSGTEQ/s1600/gry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XaspSsoVhDo/UTvU4v57HhI/AAAAAAAADXs/7VcImtSGTEQ/s1600/gry.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
There's a bit of "streetwear" flavor here at Gryphon, and I must say I like it. Look at those baggy leather pants (middle photo)! Add in camouflage and a stadium jacket and I'm in heaven.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Simple layers, bold prints (especially camo in an unexpected color), looser pants.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GU3WZATkN-c/UTvU4vvH-FI/AAAAAAAADXw/nhrHX2KptjQ/s1600/icb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GU3WZATkN-c/UTvU4vvH-FI/AAAAAAAADXw/nhrHX2KptjQ/s1600/icb.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cc-DTpdG0Jo/UTvU4wwlaUI/AAAAAAAADX4/OrrL3SrnBVg/s1600/jc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cc-DTpdG0Jo/UTvU4wwlaUI/AAAAAAAADX4/OrrL3SrnBVg/s1600/jc.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I am <i>loving </i>all these prints from J.Crew (but let's be honest, I won't be buying any of it because, holy crap, their clothes are expensive!!), especially those in the last two outfits, which remind me of Persian rugs.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: World traveler flair, pointy-toed heels, casual/dressy mix (sweatpants + blazer, dress + baseball cap, etc.).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S-p_50Cpb5M/UTvU5fesIuI/AAAAAAAADYA/aHl3xFD2354/s1600/jk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S-p_50Cpb5M/UTvU5fesIuI/AAAAAAAADYA/aHl3xFD2354/s1600/jk.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L-TJdu-w8MM/UTvU5gjXK6I/AAAAAAAADYE/_Rsc-to4rsM/s1600/js.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L-TJdu-w8MM/UTvU5gjXK6I/AAAAAAAADYE/_Rsc-to4rsM/s1600/js.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I was totally tickled by the print at Jonathan Simkhai -- to me, it looks like a mix between the usual Nordic sweater print and QR codes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XS1L1mfQ4ok/UTvU5yznD3I/AAAAAAAADYM/UxBzpuaMIiI/s1600/jw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XS1L1mfQ4ok/UTvU5yznD3I/AAAAAAAADYM/UxBzpuaMIiI/s1600/jw.jpg" /></a></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Kd0kYddMWhA/UTubPgAaq4I/AAAAAAAADV4/TYlyiSybcSg/s1600/bm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Kd0kYddMWhA/UTubPgAaq4I/AAAAAAAADV4/TYlyiSybcSg/s1600/bm.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Continuing with New York Fashion Week, we have Badgley Mischka bringing some Old Hollywood to the scene. Definitely not "everyday" wear, but there are some nice formal options here.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Crisp, feminine tailoring, fishnet stockings, flowing gowns, and luxe fabrics.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NPnxt5gqG0Q/UTubP9jNM5I/AAAAAAAADV8/fYyWEeunTfY/s1600/cl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NPnxt5gqG0Q/UTubP9jNM5I/AAAAAAAADV8/fYyWEeunTfY/s1600/cl.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Oh, sunny Calla! I'm always happy to see bright palettes for fall, so I'm pleased. I especially like the yellow dress (which is saying a lot, because yellow is probably my least favorite color, other than brown) that has vents revealing a sunny orange fabric.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Punchy florals, full skirts, narrow pants, knee-high socks, and white heels.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Check out my faves below, and let me know what you've been listening to!<br />
<br />
1. "Kiss B", Kim Jaejoong ft. Flowsik of Aziatix (y'know, the guys who got signed by YMCMB!)<br />
2. "Treat Me Like a Pirate", Turquoise Jeep<br />
3. "No Gold Anything", Belizean James<br />
4. "The Solver", Shinhwa<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gEfr4HnJiss/USvfHC-iKLI/AAAAAAAADSI/YH7if7HYKM0/s1600/adl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gEfr4HnJiss/USvfHC-iKLI/AAAAAAAADSI/YH7if7HYKM0/s1600/adl.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This is definitely not my usual style, but I can see a lot of this being work-appropriate (if you work in a non-creative environment). I'm a sucker for lace, so that's what caught my eye at first.<br />

<br />
Something a little different from 3.1 Phillip Lim this season, I think... I think the plaid vest dusters are pretty interesting and definitely very 90's. Not sure what to think about those boot/sandal things, though.<br />

<br />
Seems like white will continue its reign into fall, but at least now it's tempered by black, which is more palatable for <i>me</i>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1wgMIfyKzmI/USvfH2J24cI/AAAAAAAADSc/D4J5zYecf-U/s1600/alc2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1wgMIfyKzmI/USvfH2J24cI/AAAAAAAADSc/D4J5zYecf-U/s1600/alc2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Layering outerwear (coat + vest/jacket/blazer + cardigan), leather details, monochrome outfits, fabric mix pieces.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-28w7bC40n_I/USvfIQbYHPI/AAAAAAAADSg/pya3XC0AkS4/s1600/ao.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-28w7bC40n_I/USvfIQbYHPI/AAAAAAAADSg/pya3XC0AkS4/s1600/ao.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I won't lie, what actually drew my attention at first was the set. I'm into interior design as well (big ups to Apartment Therapy), so I was intrigued by the chair, the wallpaper, and the fireplace, which you can't really see in these photos. Anyway, back to the clothes -- I'm not a big fan of Alice + Olivia usually, but I really liked the prints included in this collection.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
I only want to talk about one thing here, and that's the last two dresses. They're made to look like a dress that's been halfway taken off, and damn, if that isn't cool as hell.<br />

I've covered Stockholm Fashion Week before (<a href="http://frockyeah.blogspot.com/2010/09/stockholm-fashion-week-textilhogskolan.html">1</a>,<a href="http://frockyeah.blogspot.com/2010/09/stockholm-fashion-week-cheap-monday.html">2</a>), but I had forgotten about it for a while. Style.com has started sharing pictures from other fashion weeks though, so I'm excited to share my favorites from not only Stockholm, but also Berlin and Copenhagen. Enjoy!</div>

<br />
Frightening, a little Edward Scissorhands plus The Matrix, but definitely interesting. The leather pieces look great, and large polka dots have been sticking around in fall fashion for some time now.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Adding interest to black with layering, texture, and opacity; polka dots <i>a go-go</i>, sci-fi theatre.<br />

This collection reminded me of past Dolce & Gabbana collections, with their European take on American tropes... I really like the mix of boudoir (like the laced up knee high boots) and country (all that plaid!).<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Full skirts, Wild West meets Eastern Europe, a bit of the Pigalle...<br />

Last week, I was contacted by Kaki Read, the Fashion Coordinator at Warby Parker, who asked me if I wanted to collaborate with her on a post. As a fan of Warby Parker's glasses, I was happy to oblige. Without further ado...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Dressing the Part, at Home and at Work </strong></div>
<br />
There are just too many times in our lives when we open our closets and just want to shout. Even if you are relatively happy with the clothes that you own, nothing makes you more dissatisfied than heading out for something specific and not knowing what to wear. The clothes that we wear tell the people around us more about who we are, and if you are someone who finds yourself constantly stuck, it is time to look into what your options may be. There are a number of occasions, which seem to call for special clothes, so how can you meet those needs?
<br />
<br />
<strong>Office Meeting Madness
</strong><br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px auto; width: 500px;">
<div style="position: relative;">
<a href="http://www.polyvore.com/business_warby_parker/set?.embedder=95775&.svc=copypaste&id=72489514" target="_blank"><img alt="Business - Warby Parker" border="0" height="589" src="http://cfc.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/.sig/yLu6yZUJ3JXwHOnjn00g/cid/72489514/id/cl3e3Ev4SSyqMbenGfmPUw/size/c500x589.jpg" title="Business - Warby Parker" width="500" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<small><a href="http://www.polyvore.com/business_warby_parker/set?.embedder=95775&.svc=copypaste&id=72489514" target="_blank">Business - Warby Parker</a> by <a href="http://thefrocker.polyvore.com/?.embedder=95775&.svc=copypaste" target="_blank">thefrocker</a> featuring <a href="http://www.polyvore.com/silver_rings/shop?query=silver+rings" target="_blank">silver rings</a></small></div>
<br />
<br />
If you are attending an office meeting, it is always in your best interests to dress up a little. Even when your office is business causal, dressing things up a little can help you catch the eye of busy execs who are not always in the main office. There is nothing wrong with looking fairly severe. Start with a black skirt, black hose, black pumps and a black jacket, but then throw things for a loop by adding a button down in a very vivid color. If you have a plum blouse, consider add a plum lipstick to your makeup rotation and also a pair of eyeglasses with multi-colored frames. The point of a look like this is that is plain but still aggressively tied together.
<br />
<br />
<strong>Dinner With the Family
</strong><br />
<strong></strong><br />
<div style="margin: 0px auto; width: 500px;">
<div style="position: relative;">
<a href="http://www.polyvore.com/untitled_147/set?.embedder=95775&.svc=copypaste&id=72491290" target="_blank"><img alt="Untitled #147" border="0" height="622" src="http://cfc.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/.sig/bd2ioOeGfYiL6QDkFbvSw/cid/72491290/id/ReuvpOPwTn2UPWDUcZ-EaA/size/c500x622.jpg" title="Untitled #147" width="500" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<small><a href="http://www.polyvore.com/untitled_147/set?.embedder=95775&.svc=copypaste&id=72491290" target="_blank">Untitled #147</a> by <a href="http://thefrocker.polyvore.com/?.embedder=95775&.svc=copypaste" target="_blank">thefrocker</a> featuring <a href="http://www.polyvore.com/tortoise_eyeglasses/shop?query=tortoise+eyeglasses" target="_blank">tortoise eyeglasses</a></small></div>
<br />
After you've got the office handled, you will find that it is quite important to look into dinner with your family. Your family has a certain way that they want to see you, and it is often in your best interests to dress on the conservative side. For example, if you are invested in making sure that you have a pleasant look for your family, think about a pair of black slacks with a simple stretchy, short-sleeved top. Dress it up a little bit with ceramic or silver bracelets, and if you want to add a fun and charming look to your appearance, choose a pair of glasses with vintage-inspired frames for a bit of flash. Have some fun with the look by throwing on a lacy shrug to go over the top, or add a pair of delicate ankle boots to give the bottom some weight.
<br />
<br />
If you are interested in dressing up for your family or your co-workers, there are some fantastic choices out there. Just find the ones that suit you best and run with them!

But as I said in the title, I'm really trying not to get too excited, because I don't want to be all sad if I don't get the pieces I want. Anyway, I was just browsing around and saw that on the landing page for this collaboration, there's a quiz on love. It looked so cute that I had to take a screenshot and share with you.<br />

<br />
1. "U Did That", Teairra Mari ft. 2 Chainz<br />
2. "Charabia", Bana C4<br />
3. "Spoons", Rudimental ft. MNEK & Syron<br />
4. "Windeck", Cabo Snoop<br />
5. "Addicted", Camp Mulla<br />

6. "October Trees", Ron Pope<br />
7. "Because I'm Crazy", AA (One of the guys in this group is named Kimchee. I can't tell you how entertained I am by that.)<br />
8. "I Don't Care", 2 Chainz<br />
9. "Why Don't We Fall in Love", Amerie<br />
10. "Don't You Know", 2PM (I played this song maybe 15 times in one hour. I don't know what it is about this corny ass song that I love so much, but I'll be damned if it doesn't make me want to skip down the boardwalk eating an ice cream cone. YES!)<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RZMzGx-eMFo/UQB03kJ_k5I/AAAAAAAADKQ/D6C2elXt41U/s1600/lr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RZMzGx-eMFo/UQB03kJ_k5I/AAAAAAAADKQ/D6C2elXt41U/s1600/lr.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I can't say I paid much attention to Lela Rose before, but I definitely like this pre-fall collection. My favorites are the saffron-colored dress and the colorblocked moto jacket (2nd to last).<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Painterly influences, inspired colorblocking, flats (give those feet a break!), occasional pops of <i>saturated </i>color.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hg3iocHBgJw/UQB03hSBR2I/AAAAAAAADKU/WPsoITWYto0/s1600/kw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hg3iocHBgJw/UQB03hSBR2I/AAAAAAAADKU/WPsoITWYto0/s1600/kw.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Look at Kelly Wearstler, getting all graphic 'n stuff! I think her designs improve with each season, which is great, considering what a force she is in the interior design world.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Cutouts in unexpected places, all leather everythang, futuristic harlequin prints.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1ywqOmtVHPQ/UQB03lAYpWI/AAAAAAAADKY/s_1XMwwH1VI/s1600/ms.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1ywqOmtVHPQ/UQB03lAYpWI/AAAAAAAADKY/s_1XMwwH1VI/s1600/ms.jpg" /></a></div>
The first half of this looks like something the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Witch">White Witch</a> would wear, doesn't it? Snowy grays and whites to blend into the landscape... and a collar made from Mr. Tumnus' family members, likely.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Platform boots, fur collars, tweed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-52WojFtLEhs/UQB04HUJ__I/AAAAAAAADKg/tYXEUnhgqDw/s1600/nm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-52WojFtLEhs/UQB04HUJ__I/AAAAAAAADKg/tYXEUnhgqDw/s1600/nm.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Yg4Kh_PeiOk/UQB04Aom07I/AAAAAAAADKk/ephQwWIPkdE/s1600/oc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Yg4Kh_PeiOk/UQB04Aom07I/AAAAAAAADKk/ephQwWIPkdE/s1600/oc.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Rider caps (there are some cute ones floating around with ears on them, if that's your sort of thing), zig zag prints, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CMYK_color_model">CMYK </a>inspiration.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nzPHmSueQrQ/UQB04P3my3I/AAAAAAAADKo/jFMFuyhBKAc/s1600/pg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nzPHmSueQrQ/UQB04P3my3I/AAAAAAAADKo/jFMFuyhBKAc/s1600/pg.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Where do I even start? I love this. The prints are cool, the shoes are awesome, there are metallics and bright colors as far as the eye can see...<br />
<br />
I have to say, I was really excited for the <a href="http://www.refinery29.com/prabal-gurung-target">Prabal Gurung x Target</a> collaboration coming soon (next month, I think), until I looked at the catalogue and realized that if I got everything I wanted, I'd spend over $600. I'm still excited, but I'll have to edit my choices waaaaaaaaaaaay down, because ain't nobody got money for that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GWnDXf_GkyU/UQB04vgh0HI/AAAAAAAADKw/PJsrmvQRX4k/s1600/pg2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GWnDXf_GkyU/UQB04vgh0HI/AAAAAAAADKw/PJsrmvQRX4k/s1600/pg2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Anyway, <b>of note:</b> neon splashes, a healthy dose of white, head-to-toe prints.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ER426zo_Duk/UQB04jcPSAI/AAAAAAAADLA/O7stTMrcUSc/s1600/pren.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ER426zo_Duk/UQB04jcPSAI/AAAAAAAADLA/O7stTMrcUSc/s1600/pren.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I quite like this punky side of Preen... it's interesting.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Plaid & leather, slouchy silhouettes, winklepickers and Chelsea boots. Oh, velvet too.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-203610477540504208.post-50606038340416939312013-01-11T20:59:00.000-05:002013-01-11T20:59:37.286-05:00What to wear when you're feeling sick, or "Why is she wearing rhinestones to Target?"Today, I feel like the devil drop-kicked me in the throat, so I've been taking it easy. I think I've said this on the blog before, but when I'm feeling down or sick, sometimes I like to get dressed up and make myself look nice; it usually cheers me up. So! Here's something I hardly ever do on this blog, an outfit post. And please excuse me if I look sullen/terrible, I'm feeling poorly. I hope you're all having a better day than me!<div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1vNra7yZkDw/UOiYh-3MSXI/AAAAAAAADI4/cdOBiG-lc1g/s1600/Maison-Martin-Margiela-HM.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1vNra7yZkDw/UOiYh-3MSXI/AAAAAAAADI4/cdOBiG-lc1g/s640/Maison-Martin-Margiela-HM.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I don't usually write about controversial topics on Frock Yeah, but here goes. I was on <a href="http://youlooksocool.tumblr.com/">Tumblr </a>the other day, and one of my favorite bloggers, <a href="http://www.bohemianlikeyou.net/">Arushi Khosla</a> posted an op-ed article from Business of Fashion (another favorite of mine) discussing the <a href="http://www.businessoffashion.com/2012/11/op-ed-making-the-case-against-fast-fashion-collaborations.html">H&M and Maison Martin Margiela collaboration</a>. Here's one quote from the article:<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; line-height: 19px;">“</span><span class="quote" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-weight: bold; line-height: 19px; margin-top: 0px; outline: none 0px;">Real style is a matter of taste. And taste is a matter of experience. Just like one’s tastes in music, art or books, taste in clothes forms over time. It takes effort and knowledge. Buying into a style, quickly and cheaply, inevitably leads to the disposability of style. It’s like reading the Cliff’s Notes instead of the book.</span><span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; line-height: 19px;">” - Eugene Rabkin</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; line-height: 19px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; line-height: 19px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">And here's what I wrote in reply to the article, which I suggest you read (it's short) before continuing:</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;">"This article really bothers me. Let me start by saying that I have felt for quite some time that designer collaborations should end, or at least not be so ubiquitous, for several reasons. First, the quality is often terrible, sometimes even worse than the usual products in these stores, yet prices are much higher. Second, eBay scalpers often buy up as much product as they can, preventing other shoppers from buying what they want without having to pay way over retail price. Finally, I think the novelty has worn off; there are too many collaborations going on.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;">Admittedly, I was shocked when I heard about a fast fashion collab with Maison Martin Margiela, because, as the article states, he was not a fan of brand worship; it just seemed really out of placed. But I was also pleased. Pleased, because I would probably </span><em style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline: none 0px;">never, ever </em><span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;">own a piece by MM ever in my life. Not because I’m cheap, not because I don’t want to save up, not because I want the instant gratification of a knockoff, but because I will probably never have the kind of disposable income that would allow me to personally justify spending hundreds or thousands on clothing or accessories. I was so incredibly happy and honestly touched, as corny as that seems, that I was able to get a few pieces from the H&M x MMM collaboration, since I have admired Margiela’s design for quite some time now… so yes, it stings when the writer says, “By all means, if you are willing to buy into this collaboration, please do, just don’t think that you are buying ‘fashion’ or a part of Margiela’s legacy — what you are buying are assembly-line knockoffs that you will discard next year.”</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;">I’m not delusional; I know that by buying H&M x MMM, I’m not </span><em style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline: none 0px;">actually </em><span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;">getting a real, authentic Margiela piece. But maybe I am naive in believing that these are “re-issues” created with the brand’s consent.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;"><br />In addition, I </span><em style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline: none 0px;">have </em><span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;">to settle for those “assembly-line knockoffs”, because that’s all I can afford, and that’s probably all I’ll ever be able to afford… not to mention the fact that I never buy clothing with the intention of throwing them away. I don’t even know anyone who does that, not even my wealthiest friends. It’s even more of a pitiful coincidence that I can only buy from collaborations; I’m a fashion blogger who extensively covers runway collections, knowing full well I’ll probably never even get to see one of those outfits in person.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;">What I really want to know is: why? Why is it not okay for us, the unwashed masses who don’t have that Margiela money, to access the beautiful, inspiring work of artists like Margiela? Secondly, if that isn’t the issue, and people who share the same opinion as the writer do believe in a real democratization of fashion, then how do we solve that without using collaborations? Designers won’t lower their prices, and for many of these pieces, they shouldn’t. So what do we do?</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: inherit; line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>

I remember a few seasons back, Erdem said he didn't think that florals were his signature. Are we still going with that statement? I can't imagine being "king of the florals" is a bad thing -- although that totally makes me think of <a href="http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Loras_Tyrell">Game of Thrones</a>...<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fleI_xpwE04/UOUkt44b2AI/AAAAAAAADHM/bP6xJzauxfg/s1600/erd2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fleI_xpwE04/UOUkt44b2AI/AAAAAAAADHM/bP6xJzauxfg/s1600/erd2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
To me, there's a bit of a 60's influence in the shapes here, especially in the coats and dresses. If you should take just one thing away from this collection, it's definitely the <b>mix of solids and prints</b>: good if you can do it in an outfit, even better if you can achieve it in one piece of clothing, like a jacket.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N2qQLEf3EmE/UOUkuYwzrtI/AAAAAAAADHU/R1ZrtA3638U/s1600/gci.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N2qQLEf3EmE/UOUkuYwzrtI/AAAAAAAADHU/R1ZrtA3638U/s1600/gci.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Gucci took the "Hitchcock heroine" route this season, which I didn't quite expect, though there is often a 60's or 70's influence in the collections.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Opera length gloves and cropped sleeves to show them off, leopard print, slim pants, strictly controlled volume at the hips.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5iRux2Qi3r0/UOUku9HXLlI/AAAAAAAADHc/1w421xIamYc/s1600/hl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5iRux2Qi3r0/UOUku9HXLlI/AAAAAAAADHc/1w421xIamYc/s1600/hl.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
In general, Helmut Lang is too austere for me, <i>but </i>-- a major but here -- the clean lines and angularity of their clothes always catch my eye. What I wouldn't give for the jackets shown here...<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Motorcycle jackets, a pointed or almond toe heel, mixing dark colors (black and blue <i>do </i>go together, ladies).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VNWPjj1ShBo/UOUkvhzqWZI/AAAAAAAADHg/QStYkSgQAg0/s1600/hr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VNWPjj1ShBo/UOUkvhzqWZI/AAAAAAAADHg/QStYkSgQAg0/s1600/hr.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
All I have to say is that I think I'm turning into a floral obsessive.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: All-over florals. Seriously, put them everywhere.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ocMv6ojKiM/UOUkwAGie-I/AAAAAAAADHs/ls-xoQZ1sjY/s1600/hvma.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ocMv6ojKiM/UOUkwAGie-I/AAAAAAAADHs/ls-xoQZ1sjY/s1600/hvma.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I think this is one of the sexiest collections yet, with the strappy bra top under a vest (bottom row) and that bra/pencil skirt combination.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D5mr4zKqyr4/UOUkw4dbLFI/AAAAAAAADHw/iC0GcjQ5YxI/s1600/icb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D5mr4zKqyr4/UOUkw4dbLFI/AAAAAAAADHw/iC0GcjQ5YxI/s1600/icb.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Okay, so, florals are going to be really big for pre-fall, don't you think? I really like how they're paired with geometric patterns and stripes here. In case you didn't know, florals + stripes = foolproof way to mix patterns.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QfK9X68gX8A/UOUkxrNk5SI/AAAAAAAADH8/jGy_NxRqPhQ/s1600/jc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QfK9X68gX8A/UOUkxrNk5SI/AAAAAAAADH8/jGy_NxRqPhQ/s1600/jc.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm really enjoying the path Just Cavalli has taken of late. It's still a bit wild, maybe unpredictable, definitely never staid, but it no longer makes me think "tacky".<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Knee-high boots, well-constructed outerwear, paisley and other lavish prints.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WnIWj7P5w1A/UOUkyZrWVlI/AAAAAAAADIA/U8dn6RMIsKk/s1600/jk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WnIWj7P5w1A/UOUkyZrWVlI/AAAAAAAADIA/U8dn6RMIsKk/s1600/jk.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Punchy primary colors, leopard print booties and knee-high socks, a parka in a sophisticated fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0lZtVWyL5Uk/UOUky9XNbuI/AAAAAAAADIM/USNlkFBfXr4/s1600/jm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0lZtVWyL5Uk/UOUky9XNbuI/AAAAAAAADIM/USNlkFBfXr4/s1600/jm.jpg" /></a></div>

2. "Luv Me", D-Unit<br />
3. "F**kin' Problems", A$AP Rocky ft. 2 Chainz, Drake (erm... don't play this in front of impressionable children or your grandma... unless your g-ma is trill.)<br />
4. "Lighters Up", Snoop Lion (lol) ft. Mike Posner<br />
5. "Guap", Big Sean<br />
<br />

Happy New Year to you all. I want to thank you for continuing to read my blog, for engaging with me, and for generally being awesome. I wish I had money to do giveaways and things like that, but times are rough. I promise you though, I appreciate every single one of you, and when I come up, I'll take you with me. :) Anyway, I hope the new year brings you success and happiness.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-203610477540504208.post-17445134127917467872012-12-30T09:51:00.000-05:002012-12-30T09:51:00.097-05:00Pre-Fall 2013 Collections: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alice + Olivia, Alexander Wang, BCBG Max Azria<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The year is ending, things are wrapping up, but in the fashion world, we're already looking ahead to Fall 2013. Check out the offerings from a few designers below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S3y6he4bQQ4/UN_9NNQf_NI/AAAAAAAADF4/UzkKnfGvS3A/s1600/31pl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S3y6he4bQQ4/UN_9NNQf_NI/AAAAAAAADF4/UzkKnfGvS3A/s1600/31pl.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
As you know, I love me some 3.1 Phillip Lim (even though I can't actually fit into any of it... at least I couldn't as of 2009), and this collection is no different. There's an interesting level of dishevelment here that I find very interesting, especially since the clothes themselves are pretty crisp and structured.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OrTTK-p7lLw/UN_9NjuLOsI/AAAAAAAADF8/gIcWsjZcwOw/s1600/31pl2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OrTTK-p7lLw/UN_9NjuLOsI/AAAAAAAADF8/gIcWsjZcwOw/s1600/31pl2.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Clean construction, forest/hunting-inspired colors (oxblood, sand, ivory), animal prints and hooflike shoes, neat layering.<br />
<br />
...that leopard print jacket, though. *swoon*<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wVNmibvNcV0/UN_9OGGa6GI/AAAAAAAADGI/BHgG3B6jyKc/s1600/aao.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wVNmibvNcV0/UN_9OGGa6GI/AAAAAAAADGI/BHgG3B6jyKc/s1600/aao.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Not entirely sure why this photoshoot was set in the London Underground, but whatever -- I'll go along with it.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Leather pants and accessories, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Stijl">De Stijl style</a>, a touch of schoolboy preppiness.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zdfGkIdQb7Y/UN_9O5CzSwI/AAAAAAAADGM/RGrb6ZJDKUE/s1600/aw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zdfGkIdQb7Y/UN_9O5CzSwI/AAAAAAAADGM/RGrb6ZJDKUE/s1600/aw.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
You guys know how much I dislike a wardrobe comprised only of black, white and gray, so this is really pushing it for me... I'll tell you what I <i>do </i>like though, those t-shirts (sweaters?) with the prints. I haven't seen detail pictures, but the print looks like black and white photos of fields. I'm down with that.<br />
<br />
<b>Of note</b>: Simplicity, high-shine leather.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qMkqVLEjCpc/UN_9SKl3HWI/AAAAAAAADGY/rMc10PVC0NU/s1600/bma.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qMkqVLEjCpc/UN_9SKl3HWI/AAAAAAAADGY/rMc10PVC0NU/s1600/bma.jpg" /></a></div>
This was interesting... Not really sure what the whole collection is going for, but there are some really cool pieces here, like the blue and black jacket and the patterned dress. And the shoes... don't even get me started on those beauties.<br />
<br />
Of note: Pale colors and chunky shoes to ground them, polished patchwork, nipped-in waists.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-203610477540504208.post-40855602592320300872012-12-19T23:00:00.000-05:002012-12-19T23:00:00.749-05:00Madewell offer code just for y'all!Hello all!
