What we Wore

I always forget* to take pictures when I go out**, so here's what my friends and I wore to dinner Friday night.

* Partially consciously... I'm not ready for my mug to be plastered all over my blog.
** I say "out," because when I'm at home, I dress like a complete bum. When I'm lounging about, comfort takes precedence over everything else! Also, I've been painting my room lately.

I think Marc Jacobs actually controls my universe...

...because last night, I went to Target and saw a man in a pink dress. It was incredibly surreal.

Fall 2008 Trends

I was looking through the Fall 2008 Trend Report on style.com today. Here are a few of my favorites.

There were more photos, but my computer is having a bitch fit, so these three will have to do. I'll post something better soon!!

(On a side note though, I love how Karl Lagerfeld sent his models down the runway dressed just like him! I don't know if it's narcissistic or if he was poking fun at himself; I took it to be the latter, though it's probably the former.)

Going shopping!!!

I'm going "Back to School" shopping today, and I've got a few things that I've been putting off buying till now.

Oh, but before I say anything about that, my biggest tip for fall shopping is this: GO. TO. ZARA!!! I am in love with that store. Anything you want, you can find there. I didn't end up getting anything last time I went, but my best friend found the schoolbag of her dreams. Of course, she couldn't wait till September to use it, so she's been toting it around.

The List:

Underwear. A necessity, really (haha).

An interesting sweater/cardigan. I am addicted to cardigans, and can never have enough. I probably have about 20, at least, that I wear regularly. My last purchases were a 3/4 sleeve ombre gray-blue cardigan and a sleeveless navy blue hip-length cardigan. Today, I want to get a cream colored cardigan, and maybe a red one as well.

Tights! A must, because I rip them all the time.

A faux leather jacket. The one I have right now is silver leather, and obviously, I can't wear that everywhere.

Leather gloves.

Shoes: A pair of Converse, shoe boots/booties/whatever you want to call them.

Fur

It's things like this that make me think that fashion designers/editors are really out of touch with the world.

If you walked down the street in New York dressed like this,

you'd pick up some customers. And you know what I mean.

Japanese Men's Vogue

Is anybody really surprised that the cover photo, shot by Hedi Slimane, looks like this:

I'm a little upset that the cover model seems to be a white guy, carrying a samurai sword. Why not just get a Japanese model? It's not like there aren't
any.

One collaboration we really DON'T need to see

I just read that Danity Kane is going to join up with Dollhouse Jeans to create a line of jeans... Does anybody want to dress like them?

This is the nicer of the two pictures I was going to post. They've got some interesting gear on here, and most of it could actually be nice, if they hadn't tarted it up so much. For example, the one on the left (I think it's Aubrey?) has a beautiful top on -- I rest my case. It's a
top, not a dress! She needs some pants, ASAP. I mean, come on. The shirt is slit down to her navel, and slit up to what looks like her hip. This would be indecent if she wore this outside, which, let's face it, she probably has.

Everybody else looks okay, except for the girl in white (what is going on with that long scarf thing? And no one needs to see the lower half of your buttcheeks.) and the girl wearing the white and blue top (If her bra wasn't showing, she'd look cute!). Actually, the only one who doesn't look like she's ready for a night out on the town with the Pussycat Dolls is the one in the middle, and her shoes really just kill the outfit.

Obviously, they should really just stick to making music. Then again, it's pretty smart of them to be making deals with other companies, because we all see how "well" Bad Boy's artists do. Um...where's 112? Da Band? Mario Winans? B5?
Carl Thomas? Faith Hill? Cassie? Well, it's Cassie's own fault she can't sing.

One interesting editorial.

I just came across these pictures from the New York magazine in an editorial called, "Glitter Among the Grit." See for yourself why I love it.

In case you were wondering, not one of these has a price tag in the triple-digits. So you had better be extra BIG PIMPIN' if you want to lay your hands on these. Well, either that, or a willingness to live without basic amenities like electricity and food for a while (
not a good idea!!).

Biker jackets

Leather is in for fall again, and you can get it at any price point. Well, "leather" at any price point. I went by Target today and there were 3 or 4 different styles of faux leather jackets -- bomber, trapeze, trench, biker; there's something for everyone. (On a side note, check out the jackets by Richard Chai -- good stuff!) Check out these styles.

Models' style: Backstage and on the street

Backstage photos have always given us a look into what goes on behind the scenes in a fashion show. These days, however, we can use these pictures to see what models wear when they're not strutting down the runway or taking pictures. Be inspired -- try something new!

This first look is inspired by Iekeliene Stange, one of the few models whose quirky style I actually like and consider "put together." On one side is a recreation of her look, if you're bold enough to try dark teal tights and a printed dress with sequins. On the right is a look that uses the same long black cardigan and retains some of the color, but is a lot more subtle.

The next look comes from Chanel Iman, out on the street. Unfortunately, this outfit is a
little on the boring side. Thankfully, an interesting coat can definitely safe a blah winter outfit.
