Monotony

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of "What I Wore Today"-type blogs. Those are always cool to look at, but it's not really my bag... not yet anyway.

No offense to all those bloggers, but lately all I see are repeats of the same outfit:
- Loose top of some sort (shirt or dress) that is black, white, cream, beige... you get the picture
- Belt or jacket to rein in all that fabric
- Skinny pants/jeans or leggings
- Chunky black heels

I guess it just annoys me to see one thousand iterations of a supposedly subversive outfit. I hope no one takes this to mean that I think I have better fashion sense than these bloggers, because that's not my point at all. My point is, really, that we need something new!

Northern Africa

When I think of Moroccan design, I think of something like this: intricate tilework, vivid colors and metallics, and archwork.

This Alice + Olivia dress reminded me of the traditional tiles called zellige, because of the use of yellow and white and the geometric pattern.

$264 at shopbop.com

The print on this off-the-shoulder top brings to mind the arches often seen on mosques and other buildings in the Islamic style.

By T-Bags. Originally $128, now $64 at shopbop.com

I have often seen fine metalwork in North African art, so this hammered metal cuff jumped out at me. It comes in an interesting gunmetal color (it looks like blackened silver with a green patina over it, like on the Statue of Liberty), as well as the silver version shown below.

*Frown*

Sadly, I am broke. Broke as a joke, my friends. And nothing makes you despise being broke more than having to look at clothes that you can't afford.

And that is why I haven't posted much. Sorry, loves.

However, now that my life has settled down somewhat, I think it'll be easier to churn out some posts. I'd really love some feedback on what you want to see. I have allowed anonymous posting, so feel free to speak your mind, even if you only read Frock Yeah occasionally.
