I recently traveled to Houston, Texas, which was interesting ... Jk, I had a fun time. The nightlife was not my cup of tea but hey. Having just gone through TSA, I thought you might enjoy some of my personal tips on how to make your journey through airport security conflict-free and speedy.

1. Don't fly anywhere.
Seriously. If you can avoid flying, I suggest you don't bother with it.

2. CHECK YOUR LUGGAGE!!
I can't stress this enough. If you're traveling domestically, you may have to pay to check your luggage, but it'll be worth it if you don't want to deal with the threat of being strip searched or having to explain for the third time that, no, your hemorrhoid cream is in fact NOT an explosive.

3. Follow directions to the letter!
If the limit is 3.4 oz, they mean it. Don't try to skirt around it. You might end up without your expensive cosmetics. The exception is medication, either prescription or over the counter. These you can have, but I suggest that you put them all in the same compartment so they're easy for you and the TSA agent to find. Also, don't be surprised if they ask you for a sample. You will probably, in one way or another, have to explain what your meds are (especially if they're generic or don't have the script stuck on them).

4. Show up naked.
Okay, ideally speaking, this would be the best option. However, indecent exposure is real and you will probably get arrested. Your next best bet is to not wear jewelry or belts, and to wear shoes that are easy to get on and off.

5. Be polite and friendly towards your fellow passengers and the TSA agents!!

DSquared2 always goes the extra mile when it goes to staging their shows, and for me, it pays off. This season's inspiration, if you couldn't tell, is the festival queen. Y'know, Glastonbury and all those English open air concerts. (Personally, the amount of mud present is really quite enough for me to not be interested, but I'm sure it's a life experience that should be done if possible.) Truthfully speaking, it's probably not the best idea to wear a swirling maxi skirt in the mud, but everything else is spot on.

Gianfranco Ferre... just... wow. I think this is my favorite showing from them since Ferre died. For some reason, this collection reminds me of Basic Instinct -- that white dress Sharon Stone wore (mind you, I've never seen the movie). Anyway, excuse me while I find a way to get my hands on those silver shorts.

Meadham Kirchhoff, what can I say... I love this collection. It's the frothiest, clowniest, most bizarre thing I've seen lately, and it's fantastic. It's like English schoolgirl meets Egg magazine. I actually wouldn't mind wearing some of the things here, like the checkered jumper with the eyes, and the heart sweater with the rainbow on it. Like I've said before, I'm not a fan of pastels unless they're all mixed together, and I think this collection does a good job of that. I don't think I'll be trying out those hairstyles any time soon, though.

The two dresses in the middle, can I have them, please??

Yeah, I know I'm about 8,000 years late with these posts/reviews, but I still want to post them up. Sorry I haven't been around much... I've been feeling burnt out and uninspired. To top it off, I have been violently ill for the past 5 days. :(

But on to happier topics -- here comes the fashion!

So Danielle Scutt was inspired in part by Tupac and Biggie, which is literally the most random shit ever. However, what's shown above is really, really nice. I quite like this spangly material she's used for the skirt and top, and I especially like the dress with the t-shirt appliqued on it... I wonder if it's detachable (I guess that'd be an easy DIY).

So, seriously guys -- metallics are going to be big. They could be star-like, like the fabrics used at Danielle Scutt, holographic like the ones at David Koma, or just straight up metallic like the ones you see just above at Felder Felder. Personally, I like all three... which do you prefer?

A few other things of note at Felder Felder: a more delicate -- and perhaps more wearable -- harness, layered sheers, and the omnipresent studs (not that I'm complaining. I'd probably stud my underwear if it wouldn't be insanely uncomfortable).

Jeremy Scott is a designer that people love to hate. His collections are often gimmicky, strange, and sometimes a little tacky. I, for one, am not a huge fan, but I don't dislike him either. All that being said, I really enjoyed this collection. It's a little bit country and western plus a little Las Vegas "bright lights, big city" blended together to create some bizarrely appealing pieces. I'm entirely unsure how these pieces would translate to real life wear, but I like them nevertheless. What would I pick? I'd go with the one-shouldered dress, the long "Paradise" tee (I love it, and it reminds me of an old Georgio Armani t-shirt my mom randomly had), the cactus t-shirt dress, and the patent leather (maybe vinyl or PVC? ) cropped jacket.

Mmm, Graeme Armour. This line is usually hit or miss for me, but this time, I like it! I really like the slight bagginess of the pieces shown here. Nothing's actually skintight or overly slouchy -- the fit is great. I particularly enjoy how the leather jacket (shown at far left) has built in sleeves to knot around the waist. There are sheer pants here too, which reminds me of the Acne fall collection.

Okay, Gary Graham! I like where this collection is heading... it's like slightly techno mori girl. I absolutely adore the stockings/tights and shoe combination.

Helmut Lang: what to wear apres-gym, if you're really into appearances.

Jokes aside, I really like the shot of sportiness in this collection. It adds a little softness to a line that is usually a little too far over on the austere side for my liking.

Shiny florals! Who would've known that that would look good? Big ups to Cynthia Rowley for the high-shine collection. I'm now in the market for some look-at-me florals, gold shoes, and structured (scuba gear inspired?) dresses.

I think this is a new line... me gusta! Reminiscent of Balenciaga and Christian Cota, yet fresh and inventive. I adore the color choices here, though I did find the floral prints a little on the dowdy side.

Cushnie et Ochs, you clever ladies. Way to redefine peplum. Hell yes, I want a metal peplum detail on my dress. Fantastic!

Seriously, Custo Barcelona, seriously? I love it. ALL of it. The prints are so Dali-weird... there are faces, and flowers, and I'm pretty sure I saw a giraffe in there somewhere. Don't even get me started on the shoes. If there was one collection from this season so far that I really, really wish I could get my hands on, it's this one. Bravo!

New York Fashion Week: Betsey Johnson, Carolina Herrera, Christian Cota, Charlotte Ronson

Betsey Johnson has never really been my cup of tea, though I did admire her insistence on youthfulness and fun. I mean, really -- can you call a lady who does cartwheels and splits at the end of her shows uptight? I definitely enjoyed this collection. Even though it was a mishmash of styles, I think all of the patterns and silhouettes showed scream "Betsey". Favorites of mine: The studded bustier, the half colored-in florals, the sheer trench, and all the ruffles and lace!

Another designer who's never really been my cup of tea. This time around, however, I was pleasantly surprised. Carolina Herrera plus a shot of graphic direction are a match made in heaven. I particularly liked all the uses for the short stripes shown. Vertical patterns, blocks of sheer/opaque, the belts, as piping... it showed up nearly everywhere, and I thoroughly approve.

Christian Cota is a perennial favorite here at Frock Yeah. I don't really have much to say that I haven't said about Cota before, but again: I love the silhouettes, the color palette, the presentation. The only thing I didn't really like this time around is the shoes.

I should have titled this post "People I Don't Usually Like, and One I'm Obsessed With". Ronson is yet another designer who I never really liked (I only warmed up to her rather recently), but for me, this collection says she's moving in the right direction. Not my favorite from her, but it's all right.

New York Fashion Week: Adam, Altuzarra, Band of Outsiders and Charlotte Ronson

It only comes but twice a year...

Mmm, I like this! The first half was weirdly frothy and over-the-top girly, with giant pink flowers and lavender (the color) strewn everywhere. Then the darker florals came, bringing with them a mishmash of... I'm not entirely sure what. I was a little confused as to where the band jacket fit in, to be honest. However, I still appreciate the rest of it. Moral of the story? I guess florals aren't going anywhere. And maybe this spring, instead of leather jackets with maxis, it'll be band/military jackets? I just might be okay with that.

This collection by Altuzarra reminds me of someone/something, but I just can't place it... is it Alexander Wang? I'm sure comparisons will be drawn between the two, since there were quite a few open knits.

One of my absolute favorites so far! I like the Amish meets tennis separates look.

I really like the new direction Charlotte Ronson's going on. This collection is more like her than her last (I think it was last fall that was more punky/sporty than usual), but I think she's sitll on the right track. Here, geometric designs are in, from patch pocket details to mazelike patterns on skirts to large silvery polka dots.

Fashion Icons Part 1: Harold Lloyd

Have you ever gotten the (sometimes dreaded) question, "Who are your role models?" I always hated that question, because, oddly enough, I don't have any. I've never been the type to put people on pedestals, but I do admire a lot of people -- yet I may not model my life by these people.

Recently, on one late night, I started thinking about who inspires me in the realm of fashion. I, like a lot of fashion bloggers/fans/fanatics, spend a good amount of time on the internet looking at how people dress. I think about why that look works for them, why so many different people have the same ideas (both good and bad), if a look or an item would look good on me, what I could wear it with, etc.

This time, however, I found myself looking at people with completely original style. And with that, I introduce a short series on my fashion icons.

First up is Harold Lloyd. I came across this (mostly) silent movie actor by watching TCM at about 1am on a random Sunday.

The movie was "The Freshman", made in 1925, about a college freshman who, in his desperation to become the Big Man on Campus, turns into the laughingstock of his school. Of course, he ultimately saves the day when he plays in the big football game. I was entranced, amazed that a silent movie could make me laugh so much. I eventually saw "Girl Shy", "Safety Last!" and "Doctor Jack" -- and I was hooked.

So, we've established that he can make me laugh -- but why is he a style icon?

1. The Glasses Character, or, How to Create a Signature Look

Once Lloyd established his Glasses character, he never strayed from it. That is, he found something that worked -- and stuck with it. To me, the same thing can apply to personal style. If you find something that really suits you... say, some round glasses, why not make them your trademark?

I think you can take this further, actually. You don't have to wear the same exact thing every time, but you can evoke the same sentiment, stick within a certain range. For instance, my next style icon almost always wears bright colors... and lots of them.

Personally, I think my trademark is interesting jewelry. I never planned it that way, but I do enjoy jewelry, I love buying it, and I look for things that are unique. I tend to get compliments on my jewelry, so I'll roll with that.

2. Machine Age fashion

Midway through the '20s, looser clothing became generally more popular. Trousers got wider, shirtsleeves were looser, suit jackets had normal waists (before, they were super high-waisted) and wider lapels. Double-breasted vests also became popular. History lesson aside, Harold Lloyd's character was always dressed in the fashion of the times, even though his characters were often poor as dirt and more than a little nerdy.

Harold also often wore a straw boater hat, which was really popular for upper and middle class men of the time. If you think back a year or two, I'm sure you remember boater hats being in style? And if you follow Japanese fashion, I know you remember that. In fact, I think they were still "in" as of last spring. My alma mater even has a tradition involving boater hats. (The picture above always makes me laugh, because I have the exact same facial expression when I'm on the Metro.)

I never did the boater thing, but I do own a straw hat (Eugenia Kim for Target) that I adore.

I have always been attracted to a more boyish or masculine aesthetic, and I hardly ever wear skirts or dresses, so a guy from the 1920's is perfect inspiration for me. I've already talked about what I gather from Harold Lloyd in a more... abstract sense, but what about actual items?

Oxfords

I, for one, was ecstatic that oxfords are stylish again. I remember in high school, I definitely wore men's oxfords (for a brief period of time), but the fit wasn't quite right. Luckily, now we've got a ton of options at every price point.

Dress pants

It's probably clear to you that using the exact silhouette of a pair of pants made for a man living in the 1920s for a pair of pants made for a woman living nearly 100 years later might not be the best idea. Here, the pants are reminiscent of Lloyd's style in a few ways: color, pleats and creases, and length.

Bows, bowties, and ribbons

No need to be literal when interpreting a look. If you want to wear a bowtie, more power to you -- I think they look really cool on women. But if that just isn't your cup of tea, there are many other ways to wear a bow: in your hair, on your ears, as a brooch, on your wrist, around your waist...

And don't forget the nerd glasses.

I'm not a huge fan of Selena Gomez (I don't really think she can act that well... or sing, but hey), but I adore this Elle Mexico shoot. The lighting/filters make the images so dreamlike, and Selena looks gorgeous in the clothes -- some of which come from places like ASOS, so I was all, "Yay, I could actually afford something in this magazine!" Well, I think I've figured out what I want to wear this fall. I could go on and on about this collection. I just love it! I've always been a fan of boyish (but not too boyishs) looks, and Paul Smith has absolutely nailed it -- as usual.

Key points:

Outerwear - capelike coats, bunched up cardis, blazers (double or single breasted)
Pants - loose! Cuffed to the ankle or above them, too.
Accessories - nerd glasses, slouchy beanies, a tie if you're really daring, tote bags inspired by carpenter bags, patent oxfords and black socks.
Patterns: Everything's mostly plain, but there are a few touches of polka dots.

Ugh, I loves the Marni. How is it that they manage to be ugly, granny-chic, yet completely covetable at the same time? As usual, the mix of prints and colors are to be admired here, as well as the platforms. Demure hemlines as well... you could definitely take some officewear ideas from here. (Ew, how practical -- officewear.)

Oddly enough, my favorite is the "chic" dress... I think it manages to not be overly gimmicky. Would I wear it in public? Maybe not.

This collection reminded me of MJ of Dreaming Spires -- I think it's the hats? Lovely 70's vibe here, and check out that cape! Maybe this'll be the winter that I gather up the courage (and copious layers) to wear my cape.

That last dress -- wow.

This is a photo dump, because I totally forgot to post all these, but they're too good to pass up.

Delicious military goodness from Alexander McQueen.

Everybody's other favorite Alexander brings us what we've come to expect from this collection: downtown cool, excellent use of fabrics/textiles, and weird but still covetable (apparently that's not a word) shoes.

I don't know why, but this really reminds me of the Royal Tenenbaums. Also, not sure how I feel about the styling here, but the individual pieces are ace.

70's casual from Chloe. Look at the boots!

Not gonna lie, I really hate this color palette. This looks like the wardrobe for Mud People. I do, however, really like the harness-like belts and motorcycle/engineer boots.

In the second picture... does she have a sweater tied around her like a big scarf? Because omg, I have been thinking of doing that for quite some time. Sometimes a regular scarf just doesn't cut it, ya know?

I don't really have anything to say about this. Not in a bad way though.

I always try to give a little love to the students, because hey -- I know how hard it can be. Also, CSM consistently produces talented, capable designers.

Jenny Postle: These pieces reminded me of a pinata... but I mean that in a good way. I'd love to see a "market-ready" version of this.

Maarten van der Horst: At first glance, I was really confused by this collection. "What's up with all the Hawaiian shirt print?", I thought. Then I came across those printed pants and realized that they looked pretty cool. In my opinion, if you're looking for a real statement, go for some printed pants.

Regina Pyo: Probably my favorite out of the ones posted here. It's so very "wtf", and yet, there's something intriguing about it. First, in some of the looks, we can't even see most of the outfit. Second, you have to stop and think how hard it must be to take some cloth, cut it very simply, and make it look good, not just like some pieces of jersey sewn into a sack.

It's absolutely oppressive to look at all this velvet while suffering through 90 degree weather. Ugh. But I'll force myself -- the things I do for you guys! (jk)

I wouldn't say anything here is groundbreaking... some key points: emphasized (slightly higher) waists, sheer fabrics, the ubiquitous Anastase platform shoe, a touch of the Pre-Raphaelite.

If you live in the DC area, you know how *lovely* our weather has been lately. It's so nice to step outside and instantly be drenched with sweat, no?

I know I'm not the only one who has trouble dressing for warm weather (but honestly, I'm probably an extreme case, since I didn't even own a proper pair of shorts till this spring... *sigh*), but let's look to the runway for a little inspiration...

Unless I'm mistaken, this is Acne's fall collection, but portions of the looks shown above can be adapted for the hot weather.

1. Wear a skirt/shorts/skort. Seriously. It's such a good idea. In my experience, there is nothing worse than wearing skintight jeans in humid, 90 degree weather. Sometimes you just gotta be free, know what I mean? My favorite out of the options I just mentioned is a pair of shorts, as long as they're kinda loose.

2. Skip the layers, unless you live in a place where it gets very cold toward the end of the night. If so, just carry around a light cardigan or something.

3. Wear loose pants! Those peach colored pants in the third outfit look super comfy, and would probably great to wear in the city heat.

Side note: I really like the tulle pants at far right, and would totally recommend this look, but I figure you'd have to get them from Acne, which is likely costly (or you'd have to make them yourself).

Resort 2011

So I was looking through the pictures I had saved on my computer, I came across one other Resort 2011 collection I want to share with you guys.

It's by Bouchra Jarrar, a French and Moroccan designer. She's known how to use a sewing machine since age 12, she's been Balmain's Director of Studio and she's worked alongside Christian Lacroix. However, she truly shines (in my untrained eye's opinion) on her own. Check it out!

I remember reading something someone said a year or two ago (super-specific, I know). Basically, the gist was that you shouldn't leave your "nice" clothes/shoes/bag/whatever for a special occasion, because then you'll end up never/rarely wearing it, even though you really love it.

I totally agree with this idea. I mean, clearly, a floor-length ball gown isn't appropriate for class... but maybe you should wear that blouse you're "saving" for a nice dinner to class instead.

It's a hard habit to break out of, but one that is ultimately worth it, I think.

Another benefit of not saving your things is that you'll feel awesome. Seriously! You put on that skirt you've been saving and you'll be thinking, "Damn, I look good" all day. It's the perfect pick-me-up, especially if you're having a crappy day*.

What do you guys think? Do you think some pieces of clothing should definitely be saved for special occasions? Or do you not care?

* It's not quite the same thing, but when I have spent a few days in a row studying or writing papers, I get to a point where I can't lounge in sweats anymore, so I put on some makeup and get dressed (leggings or jeans, though. I don't mean I get dressed up)... and head back to the books. It makes it a little more bearable, I swear!

NYFW (and one interloper)

Easily one of the more wearable collections (not that there isn't something to say for the "un-wearable"). I love the idea of sheer, striped fabric. Look at that dress with the sheer back. First of all, it's so cute! Second, can't you imagine wearing this by the water? I'm thinking on the docks in the Chesapeake somewhere... Two other favorites are the sweatshirt material dress (cozy, but not sloppy), and the cardigan in the first outfit.

This collection reminds me of Erin Fetherston without the cuteness factor. Maybe Erin Featherston plus United Bamboo = Wes Gordon? Oh, fashion math. Anyway, I really like the full skirts -- though they look terrible on me -- and the skirted coat. As well as the slim pants. Nice!

One word -- velvet. *prances around happily*

Nicholas K is definitely one of my early favorites. I really like this urban look. DSquared often does it as well. I don't know what it is... to me, it looks so put together, while remaining edgy. And those "flatforms" (ugh, don't like that word) are awesome.

Okay, this actually shouldn't be in my NYFW post, but I had to sneak it in because Givenchy = genius.

They're Violet Beauregard blue. (Heh.) I wear skateboarding sneakers a lot because they're the most comfortable shape for my feet... and they often look pretty cool. These are actually from the boys' section in Target. I never thought about shopping there before, but I'll definitely take a look next time I'm looking for sneakers.

Regardless of whether you shop there, I highly recommend ASOS magazine. The layouts are lovely (can't ever go wrong with a collage), I love their choice of font (most of the time, anyway), not to mention the clothes.

So we're up to next year's pre-fall now. I wonder how long it'll take before we're looking at what we're suppposed to wear three years from now? Anyway, here's some of the cool stuff I've seen so far:

At first glance, there isn't anything really exciting about this collection, so what caught my eye? The furs. They're gorgeous! But I really do hope they're faux furs... I'm not really down with the whole real fur thing. Moving on, here are some things to keep in mind for the Elie Tahari look:

1. Wear a belt!

2. Don't be afraid of longer-length gloves.

3. Sandals in fall? Sure! (You may need tights underneath.)

4. Orange is your friend.

I adored this collection at first because the first four or so outfits really reminded me of Jean Seberg. You know, French people and their love of stripes. Anyway, the latter half of this collection doesn't disappoint. I adore these slightly futuristic Grecian maxidresses. This is one of the rare collections that I'd wear, from start to finish. Highlights: Black, red and white as main colors (you can have a splash of royal blue, too); pleating and draping; pointy flats and heels.

Hmm, what to say about Rag and Bone? This is not my style of dress at all, but I suspect this'll be a big hit with a lot of bloggers. But back to the clothes -- I like the idea of a sheer-ish striped skirt over another, shorter skirt. It's a great layering option, and it definitely lends visual interest to an outfit. Looking over the pieces posted above, there is a lot of layering with sheer things. So go forth, be creative!

Holiday Dressing

I know it's only November, but I've already started thinking about New Year's. At first, I thought I would just hang out at home (appropriate attire: a sweatshirt and fuzzy knee-high socks), but now I'm thinking of going to New York. Obviously, such an event requires a beautiful dress -- so the hunt is on.

I saw a gorgeous dress in the Washington Post Sunday magazine this past week. It was an H&M dress for only $18 or $19, in beautiful black and gold brocade. I'm going to see if I can find it in-store this week. Then, of course, there are the dresses from the Lanvin x H&M collabo. However, the dress I want from that collection is not nearly festive enough (I want the dress the maids are wearing in the video, with the high poofy shoulders... God only knows where the hell I'd be wearing that to. I may have to rethink that!)

Forever 21 occasionally has cute holiday dresses, but I think I want something with a little better quality, so I'll probably skip that. Then there are department stores, but that's usually a last resort for me.

Anyway, a fashion post ain't a fashion post without some pictures, so here are some dresses that embody what I'm looking for for this holiday season.

Ladylike things from ASOS

Like I've been saying, lately I've been into clothes with a prim schoolgirl vibe. Pretty out of the ordinary for me, as I'm usually into the hard-edged tomboy thing, but hey... I think it mostly came about because I have gotten so sick of wearing pants or jeans lately. I don't feel like coming up with a whole outfit, so the easiest thing is to wear a dress. The only problem is that most of my dresses are packed away right now, so I've been making do with jeans and such.

Anyway, I'm kind of rambling. The main point of this post is to show a wishlist of items from ASOS. They've got some really cute things at that shop! I'm still waiting on my first purchase from them to get here (seriously... they are taking long enough! But I have generally heard good things about their customer service.)

Okay, love this dress! Only problem is, it looks like I'd need some layers underneath for this to be warm.

This one's somewhat similar. I love peter pan collars on dresses, especially in contrasting colors. For me, that always seems to deemphasize the bust area (which is sometimes essential when you're wearing a dress with a high neckline).

Really like this one as well, but it kinda looks like a nightgown, so...

This is another one of my favorites. I'm not a huge fan of florals, but this dress is made of corduroy... I would love to wear this! It must be so warm and cozy.

Plaid is one of my favorite patterns (second, maybe, to paisley). I really like the styling in this picture, too. If I got this dress, I'd definitely replicate this look.

Of course, on ASOS.com, you can't just look at one area, so my search quickly went from dresses to skirts... to shorts... to coats.

I think these are culottes or a skort, which makes this even better. I'd love to find a pair of culottes -- that'd be the best of both worlds for me; a way to wear a skirt without that annoying chafey thigh thing going on.

More culottes, yay! I think I saw Tokyobanhbao wearing these and I think I'm even more sold on them.

I believe they marketed this as a dress, but when even the model is wearing shorts underneath, I think we should just go ahead and call it a shirt. It's a lovely one anyway.

Again, a high neckline, which is often not the friend of the busty. But I'm hoping that the cornelli (I think?) on the collar would draw the eye up a little higher. Also hoping it's not itchy.

This is the exact cut of pants I'm looking for. However, you'd be surprised how hard it is to find these in store. I have found them on sites like ASOS and Topshop, but a) they're somewhat expensive and b) I don't like to buy pants online because there can be so many fit issues.

I love a good military coat. That is all. Also, look at her bag... me likey.

What do you guys do when you're sick? Unfortunately, I have to go to class today, but I've already got a plan formulated:

1. Skip chorus practice, bc I can only breathe through one nostril, and that kinda gets in the way of singing
2. Drive to the local video game store and buy the newest Sims 3 expansion
3. Crank out a paper (that was due yesterday, eek!)
4. Play video games all night
5. Go to bed

In between all that, I will be drinking lots of tea and taking some cold medicine. Good times!

High fashion Frankenstein totally has his finger on the pulse... even if he technically didn't have one but an hour ago. Marc Jacob bolt stud earrings (get it? get it?) and creepers, because Frankie totally originated the chunky soles look.

This is one of my favorites... I put a weird amount of thought into this one. See that silver bar on the edge that says "Rub Away"? Well, that's a bar you use after you've touched garlic to get the smell off of your hands -- and we all know vampires hate garlic, right? I included the ring because it reminds me of those ugly ass rings the Salvatores wear on The Vampire Diaries. There's even a little story behind the McQueen bag too. Obviously, you can tell from the outfit that this Dracula's about to have a night out on the town. But if you've read Dracula, you may remember that the real story starts when he lands in London to wreak havoc on the Harkers' lives. So my Dracula carries a McQueen bag with the British flag on it in the hopes of blending in by showing some patriotism. Clever vampire, huh?

Last but not least (this is actually my favorite set... I'd totally wear this), our woodsy Wolfman is totally ready to... chase people through the woods? It seems to me that werewolves spend inordinate amounts of time in the woods, so why not dress the part? Of course, there's also plenty of claw jewelry. The better to tear you apart with, my dear... Awooooooo! (haha, I'm such a dork.)

Well, well, I have finally gotten it together to do an outfit post. Do be gentle with me! This is what I wore to work last week on a relatively warm fall day. October is always a little weird around here; one week it's 80 degrees, the next it's 45. Anyway... here it is! If you take pictures of your outfits, please help me out -- I'm terrible at self-portraits, as I haven't had much practice. And please ignore all that crap on the floor, I had just gone shopping and I've just pulled out all my winter clothes, so my room is a bit of a war zone right now. Anyway, detail pics below.

This is the belt I wore. I really like it, but man is it tight! At first, I had it buckled on the hole where I would normally wear a belt, but I felt like I was going to pass out! Fainting in the office is so not fetch.

In other news, I'm going to a haunted house today! That's really exciting... I hope it's scary. Actually, I'm sure it will be, since I'll be hopped up on pain meds (if you follow me on Twitter, you know I had minor surgery recently. But don't worry, I'm fine!) Happy Halloween, everyone! 1 big reason why you should buy denim and t-shirts before January

Basically, the price of cotton is expected to rise come 2011. Just Google "cotton prices will rise" and you'll see a number of articles suggesting that.

Do you care that some clothes are going to be more expensive? Personally, I don't really buy graphic tees anymore, and I refuse to buy completely plain shirts or shirts with details that I could easily DIY. That leaves jeans and other things made of cotton... I don't usually pay more than $60 for a pair of jeans, and I also don't shop a lot, so I'm not too concerned about this whole price increase. I'd only really care if it were to go from like, $60 to $120 for the same pair!

Maybe we should stock up on luxury denim, then?

Paris Fashion Week (Azzaro, Anne Valerie Hash, Cerruti, Carven, Yohji Yamamoto, Haider Ackermann, Gareth Pugh, Pedro Lourenco, Junya Watanabe)

Apparently these were supposed to be grown-up versions of a little girl's party dresses. I can definitely see that in the first (my favorite!) and last dresses. The others, not so much.

This was probably one of my favorite collections from Paris this season. I really like the mild, soft palette and the flowing construction of most of the garments.

I hadn't heard of Carven before, but this was certainly one of the most striking collections from Spring 2011. Absolutely love the built in tied sweater around the collar on the fourth dress, and the handkerchief hem on the second.

I absolutely love these dresses. Not exactly every day clothing, but they'd make for some good costumes. I'm seeing Helena Bonham-Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange or as the pie lady from Sweeney Todd (what was her name again?).

Not my favorite collection by Pugh by far, but interesting nonetheless. Love the shape of the last dress/top/coat/what the hell is it??

Scary faceless mannequins, but wonderful striped clothing and pretty/manly oxfords go together quite nicely.

Dark nail polishes for Fall (recent purchases)

I went shopping the other day and couldn't resist the siren call of the nail polish aisle. I think a lot of people overlook NYC cosmetics, but their nail polish is awesome (and so are a few products, but I'll save that for another time)! The quality is fantastic, and they are quite cheap. I got these colors for $0.89 each! Cheap as HELL.

I haven't used them yet because I'm not sure if I want to wear such dark nail polish to work (though they probably wouldn't care), but also because I've been too lazy to paint my nails this week.

The color names are Purple Pizzazz, Black Lace, Skin Tight Denim.
