They've created a monster

I can't believe that Looklet is so entertaining. FYI, it's best to access the site with Internet Explorer*. Here's another look I made.

I called it "Yes, Scarecrow" because from the back, the hat made her look like the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz.

* C'mon web designers, Firefox is the future! Get with the program, jeez.

Russian Fashion Scene

I was flipping through the channels and I came across Yelizaveta Pankratova, a 22-year-old Russian designer. She creates outfits for Russian socialites (but hey, isn't that who ends up buying most "fashion?" Rich people?) and recently had a ready-to-wear show. Check it out.

The Feel... of Cotton

I'm kicking myself for being so susceptible to advertising. I can't help it -- it's my second love. And who doesn't love Zooey Deschanel?

This has to be one of the most catchy jingles I've ever heard. I get all excited when I hear the opening notes on TV. Then again, I've always liked the cotton jingle.

Here's another by Jazmin Sullivan.

Both pretty good.

Victorian Robotics?

You know, I'm not the biggest fan of steampunk, but I really do love these pictures I found in the New York Times.

Then again, maybe I like steampunk more than I thought. The Prestige (not really steampunk, but the period is right) and The Extraordinary League of Gentlemen
are two favorites of mine.

(Also, I want this car. Yow.)

When it comes to decor, though, my tastes run to the opposite of this subculture: I prefer old shapes made in newer materials (like the Ghost chair by Philippe Starck), as opposed to new things made to look old.

All photos from nytimes.com, of course.

Chanel Resort '10

As much as it pains me to say this...

I actually kind of like this collection.

Phillip Lim

Like hundreds (thousands?) of other people, I am a huge fan of Philip Lim. I'm not really sure what it is about his clothes that attracts me to them
every time... For me, I'm attracted to the air of sophistication they give off. It's all very refined, but incredibly wearable, regardless of your style.

I love these photos from Topshop's newsletter.

You know, I must say -- I am
so ready for bright colors, sunshine and warm weather. I'm really sick of wearing gray, brown, black and navy blue, and I'm definitely sick of all the rain we've been getting lately. However... DC summers are terrible. The temperature is regularly in the 90-100F area (that's 30-38C), and sometimes it goes above... like last summer, when it was 115F and our air conditioning broke. My computer was overheating and crashing all the time, there was absolutely no breeze, and even the nights were unbearable. So, weather gods, can we please just have a 70-80 degree summer?!?

Happy Mother's Day!

Faith 21

Forever 21's plus-size line, Faith 21, launched recently. I took a look at the clothing recently, and I have to say that there were some things there that I wanted!

I'm really pleased that a) the clothes aren't all muu-muu like or outdated and b) that the models look AWESOME. I have a few friends who lamented the fact that the sizes only go up to 2X, but hopefully this is more of a test run, and if Faith 21 sells well, Forever 21 will make more sizes.

I can't even front --

Rihanna looks great! Very... Bianca Jagger (the suit) meets Cruella de Ville (the hair). I don't know if it's her personal style or a stylist, but somebody has done a wonderful job of keeping her look fresh, current and edgy.
